Is the Stardew Valley 1.6 update on consoles and mobile? Switch, PS5, Xbox, more

There are few cozy games as successful and beloved as Stardew Valley, so it’s no wonder it has received regular updates since its 2016 release.

The 1.6 update for Stardew Valley was released back in March 2024 for PC, adding new festivals and events, NPC dialogues, farm types, more pets, and much more. Unfortunately, the update did not immediately release on consoles, leaving farmers playing on smartphones, Switch, Xbox or PlayStation waiting for all the new content.

The 1.6 update finally came to consoles on November 4, 2024. The update activation on these platforms is apart of a larger 1.6.9 update launching on PC at the same time. You can read the 1.6 update patch notes here and check out the 1.6.9 patch notes here.

Responding to fans on Twitter earlier this year, ConcernedApe confirmed that you can experience all the new content in 1.6 with an existing save, but stated that “it would be ideal to start fresh. Some new things, for example, are different in year 1 than in year 2+. Besides, it’s fun to start a new farm right?”

You should also be keeping an eye out for Haunted Chocolatier updates now that it looks like ConcernedApe will have the bandwidth to focus on it.

Cross-platform support is becoming more important in the world of video games. Multiplayer hits like Call of Duty: Warzone 2.0 and Fortnite have pushed crossplay into the limelight, and now most AAA multiplayer games release with at least partial cross-platform support. Stardew Valley mobile and console players won't have to wait much longer for the 1.6 update. Game creator Eric "ConcernedApe" Barone confirmed in a post on X (formerly Twitter) on Sunday that it'll be hitting those platforms on November 4.

This has been a long time coming. The 1.6 update, which hit PC on March 19, was one of the largest for the cozy farming and life sim since 2020. It added more late-game content, two new mini festivals, one new large festival, new dialogue, a new farm type, a new bookseller NPC, and a ton of little additions to surprise veteran players (yes, you can drink the mayonnaise now. Yes, it's absolutely worth it).
