Fable: release date window, trailers, gameplay, and more

Xbox

Fable fans have waited since 2010 for a true Albion adventure, and it looks like they’ll have to keep waiting a bit longer. The next installment in the franchise, just titled Fable instead of Fable 4, is in production but from a studio known only for its racing games rather than fantasy RPGs. The story is beginning to become a bit more clear now, however, so here’s everything we know about Fable.

Fable only has a release window for 2025 at the moment. It’s hard to tell when we’ll get it that year, but we do feel confident it won’t be delayed another year.

Fable is still in development for Xbox Series X/S and PC. Sorry, PlayStation users, you will not be able to venture around Albion on your Sony console. Fable has always been one of Xbox’s most revered exclusive games, and being a first-party game, it will be exclusive to its console. Game Pass subscribers will also be able to play it on launch through that service as well.

Trailer

Fable - Official Announce Trailer

The first look we got at Fable was little more than a tone-setter and meant to build up some hype. It reintroduces us to this fantastical world, as well as the comedic tones the series is known for.

Fable - Xbox Games Showcase

It wasn’t until 2023 that we saw Fable again, but this time we got a much better look at both the game and the tone. The entire thing was labeled in-game footage but doesn’t show much of what looks to be actual gameplay.

We are introduced to a man named Dave, an apparent vegetable enthusiast, monologuing over the rest of the trailer with some dry humor.

The hero we see is a woman, which could be an option as it was in prior games, or perhaps this time we will be playing as a set character. This is also the first time we hear our protagonist speak, which could imply a more set character.

Fable 4 Official Trailer | Xbox Games Showcase 2024

The Xbox Games Showcase trailer follows the same format of the previous one of being an interview of sorts, this time with a retired hero named Humphry. There is a slight hint at the story here, as he explains knowing a former hero who made some wrong choices. At the very end of the trailer we see him and the main character approach some figure in a robe holding a staff who claims “I’m going to fix it — this place.”

Gameplay

Swordplay will be a given, including some cinematic takedowns, plus magic like a fireball. There was also a spell that launched up a group of enemies that were then sniped out of the air with a bow.

In terms of enemies, we see a handful of human foes, a look at some kind of werewolf, little goblin creatures, and a big tree monster.

The trailer also implies plenty of social interactions, which has been a staple of the series since the beginning. Again, we don’t see how they will work or if the minigame-style systems will come back.

There’s a fantastic shot of the iconic chicken-kick, so hopefully that will be included in the final release.

There is currently no way to preorder Fable. As soon as that information is made public, we will give you all the details.

Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii: release date, trailers, gameplay, and more
Goro Majima stands with a crew in Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii.

Yes, you read that headline correctly. Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii, the next entry in the ongoing Like a Dragon (formerly Yakuza) franchise, is taking the series into uncharted waters. This franchise has many games on the list of best PS5 games, and there always seems to be another on the list of upcoming video games. The list of upcoming PS5 games is already stacked with massive titles early in 2025 like Civilization 7 and Assassin's Creed Shadows, so everyone will need to pick what they spend their time on carefully. This game is not going to follow our old friend Ichiban, nor will it continue being a turn-based RPG, but is looking like another massive hit. There are a lot of treasures to find, so let's get digging into everything we know about Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii.

This title will also show up as an upcoming Xbox Series X game and upcoming PC game, but you will need to look at our upcoming Switch games for other options if that's your platform of choice.

Keeping track of every new video game release is a nearly impossible task. Ggames are constantly being announced, delayed, rereleased on new platforms, remastered, canceled — you get the point. With the upcoming games lineup constantly shifting on PC, Switch, Xbox Series X, PlayStation 5 and mobile, it can be hard to find games to look forward to playing (and to budget for) in the coming months.

Despite the herculean task of tracking an entire year of video game release dates, we're giving it our best shot. Check out this month-by-month schedule of new video game releases. We're focusing mainly on highly anticipated titles with concrete release dates, but will also include little-known indies and keep an eye on launch plans for up-in-the-air titles like Grand Theft Auto 6 or games that are still very early on in development like Hogwarts Legacy 2 or The Last of Us Part 3. If you're looking to get a quick glance at the future of video games, this is the place. We'll keep this list updated and as accurate as possible at regular intervals.
