What’s new on Disney+ in December 2024

Disney+ has dropped a lot of coal in the stockings of subscribers who were used to a full-service streamer prior to this year. Even now, much of the content in the Disney+ December lineup is shared with Hulu, including the first 20 seasons of Law & Order, the horror film Cuckoo, and the action series Paris Has Fallen. What’s the point of having two streaming services — even in a Disney bundle — if they’re already sharing content?

Thankfully, Disney+ is also bringing some Christmas gifts in December to serve as a reminder of why this streamer was once considered the best alternative to Netflix. Where else are you going to get a new Star Wars series (Skeleton Crew), the third season of Marvel Studios’ animated show What If…?, a new Doctor Who Christmas special, and an Elton John special? Those are the kind of things that make Disney+ worth the money, rather than a warmed-over Hulu alternative. Disney+ should spend 2025 embracing the idea of actually giving people the special content that they signed up for in the first place.

Our roundup of everything new on Disney+ in December 2024 can be found below, with our favorites highlighted in bold.

Do you need more suggestions on what to watch? We have guides to the best new shows to stream, the best shows on Disney+, the best movies on Disney+, and the best shows on Netflix.

Not yet signed up to Disney+ or looking to upgrade? The Disney Bundle gets you three services for the price of one: Disney+, Hulu, and ESPN+ for $17 per month.

3 great British TV crime shows you need to watch in December 2024
A man stands in front of a priest in Dalgliesh.

The holidays are usually the time of mistletoe and holly, of Santa bringing presents and you drinking too much of that nasty eggnog one of your relatives made. But that doesn't mean what you watch has to be all holly and jolly.

This December, treat yourself to a good mystery (or three) with these three British crime shows that may have flown under your radar. One is a show featuring one of Britain's most beloved detectives, while another is a limited series that chronicles the downfall of one of Britain's most powerful politicians.
