10. We're the Millers (2013)
Before he won the hearts of soccer fans as the quirky, positive coach Ted Lasso, Jason Sudeikis starred in a string of raunchy comedies in the early 2010s. One of those films was 2013’s We’re the Millers. Sudeikis stars as David Clark, a mediocre marijuana dealer who owes money to his supplier, Brad Gurdlinger (Ed Helms). To cancel his debt, David agrees to smuggle marijuana from Mexico into the U.S.
David hires stripper Rose (Jennifer Anniston), runaway Casey (Emma Roberts), and nerd Kenny (Will Poulter) to pose as his family, believing it will remove any suspicion that he’s smuggling drugs across the border. We’re the Millers is an effective comedy that makes us wonder if Sudeikis will return to these types of stories after Ted Lasso.
9. Midway (2019)
Usually known for his disaster movies, Roland Emmerich tackles a pivotal moment in World War II in Midway. After the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor in 1941, the United States entered WWII. Six months later, the Japanese army plans to invade Midway Island, an integral location in the Pacific Theater.
Thanks to a cryptography team, American forces determine when the attack will occur and plan their defense. For three days, the U.S. Navy and a group of courageous fighter pilots defied the odds and turned the tide for the United States in the war.
8. Transformers (2007)
Michael Bay brings his “Bayhem” filmmaking style to the live-action adaptation of Transformers. The war for the planet Cybertron pits two Transformers species — the Autobots and the Decepticons — against each other. The key to winning the war is finding the AllSpark, a cube-like object that controls the universe. The AllSpark’s coordinates were hidden in a pair of glasses, now owned by teenager Sam Witwicky (Shia LaBeouf).
The Autobots, led by Optimus Prime (Peter Cullen), disguise themselves as vehicles on Earth and find Sam, convincing him to help in their cause to find the AllSpark. However, the Decepticons, led by the villainous Megatron (Hugo Weaving), won’t go down without a fight, leading to Transformer warfare on Earth.
7. Mary (2024)
D.J. Caruso’s biblical epic about the birth of Jesus Christ is told through the Virgin Mary’s point of view. Mary traces the life of the titular girl (Noa Cohen) from Nazareth who falls in love with Joseph (Ido Tako) of Galilee. As a teen, the angel Gabriel (Dudley O’Shaughnessy) appears to Mary and tells her she will become the mother of Jesus Christ.
However, Mary is shunned from society after becoming pregnant before marriage despite never having intercourse. Forced into hiding, Mary and Joseph marry and head to Bethlehem to have the baby. The newlyweds must be careful and protect their child, especially after the tyrannical King Herod (Anthony Hopkins) orders the Messiah to be murdered.
6. Little (2019)
After being bullied as a child, Jordan Sanders (Regina Hall) grows up to be a ruthless executive who shows no compassion toward her employees. Jordan crosses the line when she disrespects a child using a toy wand. The child then uses the wand and wishes Jordan was a kid again. The next morning, Jordan is now a 13-year-old (Marsai Martin).
To make matters worse, Jordan has to give a crucial presentation that will make or break her company. Jordan must rely on someone else’s help for the first time in her life. She turns to April (Issa Rae), her overworked assistant. Perhaps living as a child for a few days will teach Jordan how to act like a proper adult.
5. Run All Night (2015)
In their third collaboration, Liam Neeson and director Jaume Collet-Serra joined forces for another action thriller, Run All Night. Jimmy Conlon (Liam Neeson) is an aging hit man who drowns his sorrows in the nearest bottle of alcohol. Things escalate for Jimmy when his estranged son Mike (Joel Kinnaman) mistakenly gets mixed up with the mob.
Believing this is a sign to make up for his sinful past, Jimmy fights to protect his son. Things get complicated when Jimmy’s best friend, mob boss Shawn Maguire (Ed Harris), becomes involved and goes after Mike. This situation won’t end peacefully, as Jimmy must take out his friend to save his son.
4. Faster (2010)
Before headlining $200-million blockbusters, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson was still finding himself as a movie star. In 2010, Johnson starred in the gritty action thriller Faster. After spending 10 years in prison, Jimmy Cullen, aka Driver (Johnson), gets out and goes right to work hunting down the men who killed his brother. Cullen hits the open road in his Chevelle with a list of names and a gun.
After killing his first victim and putting more names on his list, Cullen becomes a target for Detective Slade Humphries (Billy Bob Thornton). A hit man known as Killer (Oliver Jackson-Cohen) is also hired to kill Cullen. With a finite amount of time, Cullen must race to avenge his brother before the cops or an assassin gets to him.
3. That Christmas (2024)
Richard Curtis is best known for writing and directing rom-coms, including Four Weddings and a Funeral, Notting Hill, and Love Actually. Now, Curtis lends his talents to an animated holiday comedy, That Christmas. Based on Curtis’ trilogy of children’s books, That Christmas features a series of intertwined stories involving several parties in the small town of Wellington-on-Sea.
This Christmas, the residents experience the worst snowstorm in the town’s history, affecting everyone’s Christmas plans, including Santa’s (Brian Cox). From lonely children and stranded parents to stressful meet-ups and present-less gatherings, things are shaping up to be a Christmas disaster. Sometimes, you need a little Christmas magic to turn things around.
2. Subservience (2024)
If Me3Gan were a housewife, she would be the AI in Subservience. Nick Peretti (Michele Morrone) becomes the do-it-all father to his two young kids, Isla (Matilda Firth) and Max (Jude Allen Greenstein), after his wife Maggie’s (Madeline Zima) hospitalization. Because of his construction background, Nick is ill-equipped to handle the daily tasks required to keep his home afloat.
Desperate for help, Nick purchases a human-like android called Alice (Megan Fox) to assist at home. In the beginning, Alice is a massive help to Nick with the kids. However, she increasingly becomes more attached and overprotective of the children. Once Maggie returns home, there is tension between Alice and the family. Maggie wants to be the mother again, but Alice refuses to give up her power, leading to a dangerous situation.
1. Our Little Secret (2024)
Lindsay Lohan’s quest to become Netflix’s Christmas rom-com queen continues with her latest movie, Our Little Secret. Avery (Logan) and Logan (Ian Harding) are childhood friends who eventually date into early adulthood. However, the couple eventually ended their relationship and went their separate ways.
A decade later, Avery dates Cam (Jon Rudnitsky) while Logan is with Cassie (Katie Baker). In a cruel twist of fate, Cam and Cassie are siblings, meaning Avery and Logan must spend Christmas together. The exes choose to keep their previous relationship secret from Cam and Cassie’s mother, Erica (original Wicked star Kristin Chenoweth). This will go down as either a holiday disaster or a Christmas miracle.
